The Deep Work of Seeing God in All

Love Thy Neighbor—No Matter What - Part II

By Hari Jiwan Singh Khalsa

In Part I, we reflected on the command to “Love thy neighbor—no matter what,” and explored how the Law of Polarities, the nature of judgment, and the presence of Divine light in all beings make such love spiritually possible.

Now, let us go deeper—into the practice, the discipline, and the spiritual maturity needed to live this truth daily.

Seeing God in All: The Highest Vision

Guru Gobind Singh Ji declared: “Recognize the human race as one.”

This was not a philosophical suggestion—it was a spiritual directive. It asks us to see beneath behavior, beneath karma, beneath appearances, and beneath the illusions of separation.

To the ego, we see differences.
To the soul, we see God’s Light.
To the saint, we see NO one but God.

When we rise into this vision, love is no longer a struggle; it becomes the natural expression of the soul. But to rise, we must first surrender.

Surrender as Spiritual Maturity

Surrender is not weakness—it is the highest form of strength.
It is saying: “O Creator, I trust Your Will. Help me see as You see.” Every saint eventually reaches this threshold. Every seeker must cross it. In Sikhism is’s called: ‘Crossing the world’s ocean.’ This providence is reserved for those who follow God and Guru’s way. This is what wants, needs, expects, from ALL who pray for surrender so as to Identify His help in making this crossing.

We do not learn surrender through comfort—we learn it through the experiences we resist. Our enemies, our challenges, and our inner conflicts become spiritual sandpaper, smoothing the rough edges of our ego. When we stop resisting what God sends, we begin to understand what God means.

The Hidden Gift of Our Enemies

Scripture and history show that God often uses unlikely messengers to awaken us. There are moments when the person who hurts us the most becomes the instrument that moves us closest to God. Without their presence:

  • We would not seek clarity.
  • We would not long for peace.
  • We would not learn forgiveness.
  • We would not grow.

An enemy, therefore, is not an obstacle but a teacher. They reveal where our ego is still alive.

If we react with anger, the anger was already inside us.
If we react with fear, the fear was waiting to be seen.
If we react with judgment, the judgment was rooted in our own darkness.

Enemies expose what still needs healing. Their role in our lives is karmic, but their purpose is Divine. It’s said by Christian scholars that ‘there is no Jesus without Judas.

Neutral Mind—The Throne of the Saint

The Gurus taught that the neutral mind is the seat of intuitive wisdom. It is the place where reactions cease and clarity begins.

In neutral mind:

  • We observe without absorbing.
  • We understand without condemning.
  • We respond without reacting.
  • We love without conditions.

The neutral mind is not the absence of emotion; it is the mastery of emotion through Divine remembrance. A saint lives in neutral mind because the saint sees God’s Will everywhere.

The Divine Arithmetic of Polarities

The law of polarities teaches us that for every quality we reject, there is a hidden blessing waiting to be understood. God uses polarity to guide the soul into wholeness.

  • The arrogant learn humility.
  • The fearful learn courage.
  • The injured learn compassion.
  • The harsh learn tenderness.

This is the mathematics of the Infinite: God uses opposites to restore balance.

When we embrace this law, life stops being a battlefield and becomes a classroom for Divine education.

Practicing the Love of All: A Daily Discipline

To love one’s enemies is not an emotional impulse—it is a spiritual discipline. Here are practices that help the heart grow into it:

  • Simran for the Ones Who Hurt You

Whispering “Wahe Guru” for someone who wronged you dissolves karmic knots and opens the heart.

  • See Their Soul, Not Their Actions

Actions belong to the karma.
The soul belongs to God.

  • Pray for Their Awakening

Prayer unites your soul with theirs far beyond the field of conflict. You and your enemy have the same parent and parents. When someone treats others in a Godly manner, it matters not where they came from.

  • Ask God to Show You What You Refuse to See

Every enemy reveals something about your spiritual work. The work begins with embracing this revelation with great anticipation, and let fear fall.

  • Bow mentally to the Light within them

The soul lives in a cave deep within the heart. Everything in the cave is covered in bright deep crimson, the color of God’s heart. Visit this place as often as possible for it’s a place of divine origin. This is where and what we bow to - God!

The Future Meeting Point of All Souls

Where do souls go when the story is over, when the karmas are resolved, when the last breath is drawn?

They return Home.
They merge into the Radiance from which they came.
They remember their origin, and they recognize one another not by personality but by Identity, their very essence.

The one who was your enemy in this life may sit beside you in the Realm of Truth as a beloved spiritual brother or sister. There, all illusions fall away. There, only the Divine Light remains.

This is why we love—not because they deserve it, not because we feel like it, but because we are destined to meet again in a place where all separation dissolves.

Why This Matters to Us as a Sangat

A sangat is not merely a congregation.
It is a shared vibration.
It is a collective soul.
It is the environment where God becomes real through the company of the holy.

When even one member of the sangat learns to love the unlovable, the entire sangat rises.
The collective aura brightens.
The karmic weight lightens.
The doorway for Divine Grace widens.

This is the power of spiritual community.
This is the radiance of shared devotion.
This is the glory of the Guru’s path.

Closing Benediction

Beloved sangat, may these teachings deepen our practice, soften our hearts, and expand our vision. May we learn to love not only the saint within all beings but also the struggler within them. May we recognize that every soul is returning Home, some swiftly, some slowly, but all ultimately through God’s grace, ALL return. We see ALL in that projected Identity, that reality.

May we become instruments of compassion, embodiments of neutral mind, and carriers of the Guru’s radiance.
