Now is the Time for Teachers! - The art of practice, learning, and service
with Gurucharan Singh Khalsa
Langar Hall

We are all teachers. Yogi Bhajan said a teacher's main job is to uplift. A teacher shares experience that helps each person realize their gifts, awaken their heart and increase the power to elevate them self. We teach each other when we can see our self clearly and help another see themselves clearly. We are at our best as teachers when we are authentic and our actions express our heart and highest intentions.

To teach is to transform and be transformed. To be the best teacher we each need to be the best student. The best student comes from a genuine immersion into a practice where we learn to be who we are and serve from the heart. In this class we explore your inner teacher, the art of self-elevation and how we can each make a difference.

Class is by donation. Recommended donation of $12. All donations go to Yogi Bhajan Library of the Teachings

Good Friday Pilgrimage

The largest pilgrimage in the US takes place next Friday April 10th, to the Santuario de Chimayo.  It has been our Sangat's privilege and tradition to go out and serve the pilgrims. Last year people expressed interest in making various homemade treats (or yogi tea) for us to distribute.  If you would like to donate anything to this activity (packaged or homemade) please contact Hari Singh at harsinghkhalsa@gmail.com or 692-3721.  We'll start serving this year as early as 5:15 am and continue until we run out and/or the stream of pilgrims slows (usually around 10 am).

This is a very uplifting seva where hundreds of people thank you. If you have never participated, I urge you to come for whatever time you can.

Vitality, Stress and Your Mind
with Gurucharan Singh Khalsa
Langar Hall

Every thought shapes our success, our energy and our relationships. When we have vitality we can easily select and project a thought that we want and dispense with a thought that is unwanted.

Under stress and the pressure of work and economic change the mind misbehaves. We fix on the wrong idea; we hold to a thought or emotion that does not serve us; we suddenly find some uncomfortable or unwise thoughts "sticky". Our mind is busy with too many tasks, problems and emotions. The wisdom and neutral mind we use for our best decisions are distracted and give way to poor decisions that are short sighted, impulsive or ill-considered. We often relapse into old patterns or exaggerate our stress personality.
Fortunately, we can always tame the mind. We can call on our intuitive intelligence, counter the stress reactions and act with vitality. With a clear thought that comes from our heart we can turn challenge into opportunity.

Join us to free your mind under stress; to project the thoughts you want. Be vital under stress so you can be healthy and enjoy the play of the world. Class is by donation. Recommended donation of $12.  All donations go to Yogi Bhajan Library of the Teachings

6/14
to 6/18
Camp Miri Piri, Espanola, New Mexico

The 6th Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind Ji started the warrior tradition in Sikhism. He wore 2 swords calling them 'Miri' and 'Piri' representing the balance between spiritual and worldly powers. It was through this 6th light of Nanak that the opressors became scared, the saints rejoiced, and common man felt comfort. The concept of warrior-saint spirit has permeated the Sikh philosophy and lifestyle since that time.

This course will instill these warrior-saint values in the participants. This will be through theory, but mostly practice. Come join us on the holy land of New Mexico, with brothers and sisters, and always with love.

2/14 Meditation for an Invincible Spirit in the Aquarian Age - 1000 Day Meditation

The sangat and our yoga community are invited to come together to meditate at the Siri Singh Sahib Yogi Bhajan's ranch on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 11:30 am, followed by langar at 12:00 noon at the pool area.

This is the first day of the 1000 day meditation leading us into the Aquarian Age and will be led by Nirvair Singh, CEO of KRI. The meditation will last for 31 minutes.

If the weather is nice the meditation will be in front of the dome, otherwise it will be inside in the home right across of the dome; either way there will be plenty of space. Please, for your comfort you might like to bring something to sit on.

2/11 Introduction and Launch of the Global 1,000-Day Meditation for An Invincible Spirit in the Aquarian Age
February 11, 2009, 7pm  at the Langar Hall

Class with Gurucharan Singh Khalsa, PhD Director of Training, Kundalini Research Institute

Recommended donation of $12 or more to the Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings.

We are quickly approaching the long-awaited transition to the Aquarian Age. This Age holds much promise, a time when we mature as a human race, a time that calls on our best virtues as human beings, a time when we shift from  egocentric self-centeredness to the reality of our interconnectedness. We all have much more in common than our differences in country, ethnicity, race, religion or ability might belie. In this age, the vaulted individual ego is replaced with awareness, sensitivity, character and commitment to the common good.

How shall we excel as individuals and connect as a global village? Yogi Bhajan gave us a perspective, framework and practices for the Aquarian Age, which call on those inner virtues, so that we could act with integrity and clarity as teachers, healers and leaders. He called us to be human under the pressures of the times and the distractions of change, ego and emotion.
In this——we will join together to prepare for the global 1,000-day meditation—we will:
  • Practice a kriya to raise our energy and kundalini awareness
  • Do the 11-minute form of the Mantra for the Aquarian Age
  • Discuss why Yogi Bhajan shared this mantra and this version of the music as the sadhana
  • Examine the structure and use of the mantra
  • Explore the Five Sutras of the Aquarian Age
  • Extend an invitation to join hands and hearts to create the experience and blessing of  this 1,000 day sadhana

  • If you cannot attend in person, this class will be telecast live at: http://kriteachings.org/1000day/live.htm
9/28-10/8 Guru Ram Das Evening Meditations - Chanting will begin promptly at 6:00 pm, followed by a story and langar.  Please be on time.  If you need directions, contact the hosts for the meditation.    Blessings, Jivan Joti Kaur - jivanjotikaur@gmail.com - 753-6241

Give generously now, and throughout the year, so that the party can grow and continue to reach more people of kindred heart. To make your donation go here > (At the bottom of the donation page, select "Friends of Yogiji")

Now until August 1 To support the incredible work that the Chardi Kala Jatha is doing all throughout the world with their inspirational kirtan, a honorarium fund has been created for them. We are collecting funds to support their mission before they leave for their tour to England on August 1st.

Your contribution is tax deductable, and can be made in two ways:  1) Through Paypal by credit card at www.sikhdharmanewmexico.org; or by check payable to Sikh Dharma New Mexico, dropped off at the Ashram office or mailed to 01-A Ram Das Place, Espanola, NM  87532.  When paying by credit card, go to the Sikh Dharma New Mexico webpage and look for “Gurbani Kirtan Honorarium” in the menu on the left.  When you click the Paypal button, follow the directions and be sure to specify “Gurbani Kirtan Honorarium” in the Additional Information line.

This call for donations should not replace your loving contributions to the Community Growth Fund (CGF).  With the funds raised each month through CGF, the Gurdwara and all ashram facilities are paid for and maintained. Without the continued support of the CGF, our ashram would exist only as a vague ideal, and not as a physical place of light and love.  So remember the CGF in your monthly budget, not as an optional donation, but as an essential part of our existence on this earth.

May 4th Ashram Administrative Council--Representative Elections

Each member of our community may vote for one new representative from within their constituency. As we have 4 constituency groups, we will elect 4 new representatives to serve for two-year terms. They will join the 4 serving representatives who will be completing the second year of their two-year term. Each constituency group will then have overlapping representatives; one new representative to serve for two years and one representative who has already served one year and will complete the second year of their term.

Call for Candidates!

Anyone, whether you have served previously as a representative or not, may stand for election within their constituency group. Candidates must be able and willing to attend one monthly evening meeting of the Ashram Administrative Council (AAC) each month. Each representative must be able to stay in contact with the members of their constituency and show an eagerness to act as a conduit of ideas to and from their constituents. Representatives are able to vote on matters before the AAC. Do not nominate someone other than your self. Candidates may only be nominated by themselves by emailing Pritpal Singh (Constituency Jethadar) at: pritpalskhalsa@gmail.com before May 1st.
For election questions, email Pritpal Singh (Constituency Jethadar) at: pritpalskhalsa@gmail.com
